Give Your Chimney Liner A Second Chance With HeatShield® Cerfractory Sealant
Clay tile liners have been used in chimneys for decades and for good reason. They are durable and affordable, and can provide the homeowner with years of protection. But unfortunately, high heat, corrosive byproducts, and moisture can eventually lead clay tile liners to crack or mortar joints to recede, which can compromise the safety and efficiency of the chimney system. When this happens, if the structural integrity of the liner is uncompromised, HeatShield®, a cerfratory sealant, can work to restore the clay tile liner once more.
How HeatShield® Works
HeatShield® is a sealant that fills gaps and cracks in the clay tile liner and provides a smooth, airtight surface. There are two different typical applications for the product, and the one used will depend upon the condition and needs of your liner. HeatShield® can be used to upgrade an unlined flue system in some instances.
Application 1: The first application option is for minor crack repair. If your liner is structurally sound and just needs repair work in specific areas, we’ll start by cleaning and prepping the areas of concern. Next, we’ll apply the HeatShield® sealant, using a foam applicator to smooth over the product and press it into the cracks and gaps. The fireplace must not be used for 48 hours after application.
Application 2: The second application option is for more extensively damaged liners. If your clay tile liner needs repair and reinforcement from top to bottom, we’ll start by prepping and cleaning the entire flue. Next, we’ll apply the HeatShield® product, pulling a foam applicator up the length of the flue to smooth it over and seal everything. The fireplace must not be used for 48 hours after application.
